The BDM course INFN50 is a 7.5 credits Master course offered by the Department of Informatics at Lund University, Sweden. The course is focused on practical work and hands-on experiences through lab, workshops, and supervision sessions.

In the course, students work with two OMG standards: the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) for process modeling and the Decision Model and Notation (DMN) for decision modeling.

During this course, students work both theoretically and practically with the concept of BDM. They solve a business case by designing decision requirement diagrams (DRD) and decision logic (DL) using the DMN standard and by designing BPMN diagrams for the workflows with decision points enacting the decisions. In addition to this, the students need to design a suitable data model for the decisions and workflows. They design and implement this using a professional DMS – the Trisotech Enterprise Suite – which lets them execute the decision logic to test it.

Throughout the course, the students meet regularly with the lecturers for supervision of their developing case solutions. The students are also supported with several lab activities and a tutorial to get acquainted with the Trisotech DMS. In the final supervision session, the students demonstrate their solution and get feedback from the lecturers.

In the course, the students meet two industry experts in guest lectures. Recurring guests are James Taylor, CEO of Decision Management Solutions, which together with Dr. Jan Purchase, founder of Lux Magi Ltd, has written the course textbook, and professional and trainer Marwim van Overshot at Le Blanc Consultancy.
