Nicklas Holmberg

Nicklas Holmberg Ph.D.  started his journey towards DMN in Decision Support Systems architecture and using the Business Rules Approach. Having applied automation to improve operational business decisions in healthcare and banking, Nicklas has DMN experience from multiple contexts.

Nicklas is also a senior lecturer teaching DMN in the Business Decision Management Masters Course at Lund University. In this course, masters students design decision requirement models and decision logic to automate decisions in processes using a professional DMS.

 

Nicklas holds a Ph.D., in Information Systems., Major: Process and Service Design and Development at the Department of Informatics, Lund School of Economics and Management (LUSEM) and is a DMN On-Ramp Review Group Member.

 

Nicklas’s research addresses Business Process Service Orientation automating operational business decisions. Nicklas has designed an approach including an architecture for service oriented business processes by separating decision logic from process logic with the help of operational business decisions automation. The business logic centric digital service named VacSam is one of Nicklas’ research results supporting vaccination coordination.

Nicklas’ areas of interest include Business Decision Management, Business Process Service Orientation: Service Oriented Architecture, Decision Modelling and Automation, Business Rules Approach (BRA) and Business Process Modelling (BPM).

Why DMN?

Nicklas’s view and use of DMN could best be described as an enabler for managing change in an organized way. From an architectural perspective decisions, described and explained through DMN, are a fundamental pillar, along with BPM and data, for Design of Information Systems.

In summary, DMN contributes to systems flexibility for business agility and making work smarter.
